June is a great month for family fun in the Stateline! Summer is just getting started and we’re excited to spend some time outdoors in the beautiful weather. There are a bunch of upcoming fairs, festivals, concerts, and more. Here are our favorite family things to do in June and exciting news for families in the Stateline this month!

Exciting News & Business Openings

  • Urban Air Adventure Park is finally open! They are located next to Planet Fitness on E. State Street in Rockford in the former Gordmans building. They are offering yearly memberships with one month free through June 18th. You can get more information here.
  • Rockton River Market kicks off on June 7th with live music, food, and goods.
  • The Midsommar Festival happens on Saturday, June 17th from 10 am – 3 pm at the Nordic Culture Center in Rockford. 

Stateline Fairs and Festivals

There are two big fairs happening in the Stateline area in June! Old Settlers Days is happening in Rockton from June 15 – 18 and Summer in the Park is happening in Woodstock from June 21 – 25. You can get all of the details about these music festivals here.

Rockford Pools Opening

All of the Stateline area pools will be open by mid-June. Walt Willamson pool in Rockton, Hurricane Harbor in Rockford, and Woodstock Waterworks are already open. Here are the opening dates for each pool.

  • Sand Park Pool in Loves Park opens June 10th
  • Rockport Pool in Janesville opens June 10th
  • Krueger Pool in Beloit opens June 12th
  • Alpine Pool in Rockford opens June 17th
  • Harkins Aquatic Center in Rockford opens June 17th

Keep in mind that the Rockford Park District pools (Sand Park and Alpine) are offering free admission to members of the YMCA of Rock River Valley. Y members need to bring their valid membership card to get in free at either pool.

Family-Friendly Live Shows & Concerts

There are some fantastic family-friendly shows happening in the Stateline in June! Here’s a list of what you can go see!

Free Outdoor Concerts

June sees the return of Sinnissippi BandShell, Anderson Japanese Gardens, Edgerbook, Music on the Marv and so many more free concerts in the area. You can view a list of the free concerts by city here.

Free Garden Days

There are free and donation days happening at some of our local gardens this month. 

June 15: Anderson Japanese Gardens

June 7: Burpee Natural Museum of History

Garden Explorers at Anderson Japanese Gardens

Gardens Explorers kicks off on June 8th at 9 am with Aaron Wilson reading a story and Discovery Center Museum offering an activity. This storytime is free and includes free admission to the gardens afterward. You can view the full schedule here.

David Rogers’ Big Bugs at the Klehm Arboretum

Klehm Arboretum will be hosting David Rogers’ Big Bugs: The Pollinators exhibit from June 10 – September 10th. The exhibit will consist of 10 larger than life sculptures made of reclaimed forest wood. Klehm is open from 9 am – 4 pm daily. Admission costs are $10 per adult, $8 per child, and free for kids 3 and under. Admission is also free for those who use SNAP EBT cards. 

Fly-In or Drive-In Pancake Breakfast

Bring the family for a morning of delicious breakfast and watching planes land and take off outside of Bessie’s Diner in Janesville. The 5th annual event is happening on Sunday, June 18th from 7 am – 2 pm. Tickets for breakfast are $18 per adult, $12 for kid ages 4-10, free for kids 3 and under. Get tickets here.

Father’s Day

StoryWalk Kick-Off at Rotary Gardens

Rotary Gardens is kicking off their StoryWalk on June 21st from 9 am – 11 am. Their storywalk includes decorations in the garden, activities, and fun for all ages. It’s free to attend this event! We’ve been to the past two years of the StoryWalk kick-off and it’s always a very cute and fun time!

Juneteenth Celebrations in the Stateline

Juneteenth is a celebration of the official freeing of enslaved people on June 19, 1865. The Stateline is celebrating this important day in a few ways. These events are open to all and free to attend.

Beloit is having their celebration on Saturday, June 17th from 10 am – 5 pm at Jones Pavilion. Admission is free.

Rockford has several celebrations going on. The first is a concert by Dorothy Paige-Turner at Inscape Collective (201 7th St) on June 17th at 7 pm.

The largest area celebration is the two day Annual Celebration in Sinnissippi Park founded by Tommy Meeks. This celebration has been happening for 33 years in Rockford. The two-day event on June 18th and 19th includes food, vendors, an all Black graduation ceremony, services, live music and a lot more. See the weekend schedule here.

Time2Play Summer Program

The Rockford Park District offers free summer programs at eight area playgrounds for kids ages 5-12. These programs keep kids outdoors, active, and making friends all summer long. You can learn more about the program and sign up your kids here.

Get Outside and Play
