If you’re looking for a free program for your kids this summer, both Rockford and Beloit have free summer playground programs that are worth checking out! Each program provides outdoor entertainment, socialization, and fun for your kids as well as free lunch!

Here’s more information on each city’s programs.


Rockford Park District offers Time 2 Play Neighborhood Playground Programs for kids ages 5-12 years olds. These programs are a fun, safe, and active opportunity to make new friends and enjoy the summer. Kids can expect to play sports, games, have fun in the water, take weekly field trips and more. They are available at 10 playground locations in Rockford and Loves Park.

When: Monday – Friday from June 10 through August 12, 2019

No program the week of July 1 – 5

Most sites run from 1 pm – 5 pm, with two running all day (Keye-Malquist and Wantz Park) and one running from 9 am – 1 pm (Highland Park)

If you’d like your children to participate this summer, register them at the playground, the links above, or in person at the customer service tables in UW Health Sports Factory, Carlson Ice Arena, or Mercyhealth Sportscore 2.


The City of Beloit offers a fun and active way for the youth in the community to enjoy the outdoors, stay fit and make friends during the summer. Summer Fun at Merrill and Hackett Schools is for kids in kindergarten through third grade. Kids can expect to do crafts, play games, and have fun. Free lunch is served at noon.

When: Monday through Friday in June and August 2019 from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

The summer is broken into four sessions:

  • June 12 – 14
  • August 1 – 2
  • August 5 – 9
  • August 12 – 16

If you’d like your kids to participate, simply bring them to the location while the program is running. No registration is required.
