If your kids enjoy trains then there’s a must-see exhibit at the Nicholas Conservatory going now through January 29, 2023!

The Sinnissippi Station model train exhibit has taken over the Conservatory! As you walk throughout the conservatory, you’ll see a variety of model trains running on tracks installed among the plants. Not only are there trains carrying cargo, but also adorable trolleys perfect for kids who enjoy Daniel Tiger! The trains run on beautiful willow trestle bridges that blend in with the plant life.
The trains are changed out every few days to avoid wear and tear on the models so you may see different trains if you visit on different days!

You’ll also see a number of miniature Rockford landmarks displayed throughout the gardens including the Coronado Performing Arts Center, Sinnissippi Music Shell, Jefferson Street Bridge, and The Symbol. Look for the green signs in each area then use your phone to pull up a tour with more information about each section. You can take the mobile tour here.
In addition, there are wooden train workshops happening on select dates in December. These workshops allow you to build a freight car that will work with a wooden railway set. Kids can shape the wood, gauge the wheels, glue their car together, paint the car, and take it home! Cars can be purchased for $2 each.
