We’re excited to be partnering with SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Janesville this year to provide our audience with information about health topics for parents and children. This guest post is brought to you by SSM Health.

Women often put their own needs last.

This year, as everyone works to carry out their resolutions, please be sure to add this one to your list: focusing on self-care.

SSM Health wants to make sure that you think of your own needs in addition to those of your loved ones. After all, they need you to be healthy, too.

SSM Health Dean Medical Group – Janesville East OB/GYN Dr. Jordan Berg says that now is the perfect time to establish care with a provider, or to catch up on past-due appointments.

Safe, convenient and personalized care is available in-person or online.

“We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic might have disrupted your care routine, but it’s really important to get back in touch with your provider,” Berg said.

Routine exams and preventative screenings are important because they help to discover and address serious health concerns right away.

“Early detection can make all the difference when it comes to positive outcomes,” Berg said.

Meeting with your provider also offers a safe space to discuss topics like emotional well-being and discuss strategies to live a healthy lifestyle.

Here are some things to check on:

  • First, do you have a Primary Care provider or OBGYN? If not, establishing care at SSM Health is simple.
  • Have you had your annual Well Woman visit? These appointments provide an opportunity to do an overall check-in on your health and to set long-term goals.
  • Are you due for a breast exam or Mammogram? Breast Cancer affects approximately 1 in 8 women. Keeping close watch is vital.
  • Do you need to have a Colonoscopy? In patients with no gastrointestinal problems and no risk factors for colon cancer, the American Cancer Society recommends a first screening at age 45.
  • Are you experiencing any symptoms of a pelvic floor disorder? After having children or experiencing hormonal changes, issues like urinary incontinence, prolapse, overactive bladder or pain are common. There’s no need to be embarrassed – our team of specialists has many strategies to help.
