Our local Rockford area libraries have some treats and tricks up their sleeves for Halloween this year! Many libraries in the Stateline area are hosting fun events for kids of all ages including parades, special storytimes, parties, and movie showings. Head to the library for a spooky good time!

2020 Update: Local libraries are mostly hosting grab and go events or virtual events this year. Many need to be registered for in advance.

All events are FREE and open to the public unless noted!

Families / All Ages

October Monster Mash Up (Pick-up craft)

Where: North Suburban Library (Both locations)
5562 Clayton Cir., Roscoe, IL and 6340 N. 2nd St., Loves Park, IL

When: October 1 – 31
Monday – Thursday from 11 am – 6 pm
Friday – Saturday from 11 am – 5 pm

Stop by either location to pick up a Take and Make bag to create your own monster. Share your creation to the NSLD Facebook page by October 31st for a chance to win prizes.

Kids’ Grab and Go: Halloween & Dia de los Muertos

Where: Cherry Valley Library
755 E. State St., Cherry Valley, IL

When: October 26 – 31, 2020
9 am – 6 pm

Kids can pick up some fun activities and crafts that include a skull shrinky dink necklace, 3D paper pumpkin, and more. Register to get one.

Drive-In Movie at BPL: Gremlins

Where: Beloit Public Library
605 Eclipse Blvd., Beloit, WI

When: October 16, 2020
7 pm – 9 pm 

Enjoy a drive-in movie in the library’s parking lot. Watch Gremlins from your car. Register in advance.

Virtual Halloween at Ida (Virtual)

Where: Ida Public Library Facebook page

When: Mondays throughout October

Ida Public Library will post virtual Halloween ideas and events on Mondays at 2 pm on their Facebook page.


Preschoolers

5:45 pm – 7 pm

Kids ages 8-13 can attend a virtual party with spine-chilling storytelling, ghoulish games, spooky science experiments, and chances to win prizes. Register here.

Local Ghost Stories for Teens (Virtual)

Where: Online (sponsored by North Suburban Library)

When: October 26, 2020 – end of year

Teens can watch a video on their own time about local ghost stories. It will be located here.
