An annual Rockford tradition is coming up soon! Sock Monkey Madness Festival happens on March 7, 2020 from 10 am – 4 pm at Midway Village Museum. This year’s theme is Sock Monkey Nelson’s Birthday Party!
Come celebrate all things Nelson and sock monkey at the museum!
Visitors can participate in games, crafts, sock knitting machine demonstrations, and enjoy walking around the indoor museum.
Activities at Sock Monkey Madness Festival this year
The main attraction is the Make a Monkey Workshop! The workshop is $20 per monkey. You can choose from pink, blue, red, green, yellow and traditional brown socks to make your monkey. The museum staff will be assisting, but basic sewing skills are needed and monkeys can take up to two hours to make. If you need more instruction, an in-depth guided class is offered for 10 visitors per hour.
If you’d rather do less sewing, you can add just the eyes to an already assembled sock monkey, or purchase a fully completed one in the gift shop. Prices ranging from $15 – $46 depending on the size of the sock monkey.
If you have a broken or damaged sock monkey, bring them in for a repair at Sockford General Hospital.
Take your new monkey to the craft area to make him or her a Birthday themed costume ($5 each). Dress up your monkey as a cupcake, candle, or pinata.
Don’t forget to stop by and wish Sock Monkey Nelson a Happy Birthday!
Play themed games and do crafts throughout the museum. These crafts and games are appropriate for kids of all ages.
There will be food, beverages, and LOTS of sock monkey merchandise for sale at the event.
