It’s Fall in the Stateline! The air is getting crisp, the leaves are changing colors, and we’re excited about enjoying all of the Rockford area fun.

We’ve put together a list of local places, attractions, and events to keep you busy all Fall!

Some of these activities are free, some are low cost, and others you can do at home!

Happy Fall 2019, Stateline Families!

  1. Get a donut and apple cider at Edwards Apple Orchard. It’s not officially fall until you do!
  2. Take a hike on the Family Fun Trail in Roscoe then take a hayride and roast a S’more.
  3. Celebrate the beginning of fall with live music and food at Fall for Rockford.
  4. Pretend it’s Victorian times at Heritage Harvest Festival at Midway Village.
  5. Pick the perfect pumpkin at an area pumpkin patch.
  6. Visit one new playground in each city before the snow flies!
  7. Roast the perfect marshmallow. Here are some tips on how to do it over a campfire.
  8. Try a game of disc golf. Find your course here.
  9. Play a game of baseball at Beyer Stadium. 
  10. Do some local shopping at the Indoor Fall and Winter Markets
  11. Build a massive pillow and blanket fort in the living room. Here’s an option!
  12. Visit the Discovery Center Museum on a rainy day.
  13. Embrace creativity and support local artists at Greenwich Village Art Fair.
  14. Visit Klehm Arboretum and see the leaves change. Here’s a list of their donation days!
  15. Go apple picking at one of the area’s five Rockford area orchards.
  16. Check out the beautiful view and awesome playgrounds at Big Hill Park
  17. Put a blanket on the lawn and star gaze. Here’s the constellations you can see.
  18. Do a nature scavenger hunt at Severson Dells and play on the natural playground.
  19. Take a hike at Rock Cut State Park to see the changing leaves. Here are some maps of trails in the park.
  20. Tag and release a monarch at Burpee’s Insect Festival.
  21. Pick a pumpkin and go through the corn maze at Lockwood’s Pumpkin Fest.
  22. Get some family photos taken surrounded by the beauty of the changing leaves.
  23. Take a walking tour of downtown Rockford to see the murals.
  24. Collect pinecones and make some crafts with them.
  25. Go geocaching around the 815 and 608. Here’s how to do it.
  26. Visit the reptile exhibit at Burpee Museum. Here’s a list of donation days.
  27. Swap your kids’ old Halloween costumes for new ones at Talcott Free Library.
  28. See a classic princess Disney movie on the big screen.
  29. Collect some leaves and make some leaf rubbings.
  30. Experience the magic of bubbles at Discovery Center’s Bubble Festival.
  31. Try to find your way out of a local corn maze. Skelly’s has a great one.
  32. Visit the animals including Flash the Sloth at Summerfield Zoo.
  33. Walk through the beautiful Anderson Japanese Gardens. Be sure to bring your camera!
  34. Celebrate Autumn at the Arboretum with a horse-drawn wagon ride.
  35. Have a picnic outside at one of our local forest preserves.
  36. Take a spin on the ice at Frosty Fridays at Carlson Ice Arena.
  37. Bake an apple pie made from local apples. Here’s a great recipe.
  38. Meet the Lorikeets at Nicholas Conservatory. Tuesday is discount day.
  39. Hunt for, paint and hide kindness rocks in your city.
  40. Spend the day in small town Stillman Valley for Fall Fest
  41. Bring your dog out for a day of fun at the Hot Diggity Dog festival at Klehm.
  42. Dress up and attend one of the many Trunk or Treats throughout October.
  43. Have an apple cider taste test with cider from the local orchards.
  44. Experience the incredible World War II Days at Midway Village.
  45. Celebrate back to school with a free carnival and magic show at the YMCA.
  46. Take a stroll on Buchanan Street and enjoy live music and shopping.
  47. Learn about the 1800’s at the Autumn Pioneer Festival.
  48. Enjoy a delicious caramel apple at Sugar Britches.
  49. Follow your dreams at Disney on Ice Dream Big
  50. Rake up a giant leaf pile and jump on in!
