Spring has SPRUNG in the Stateline! It’s that time of year when the sun shines a little brighter, the air feels a little warmer, and the flowers start to bloom. We can’t wait to get out and enjoy the weather. Here are our favorite family things to do in April and exciting news for families in the Stateline this month!

Exciting News & Business Openings

  • Urban Air in Rockford has had some delays, but they are supposed to open in April! They will occupy the building next to Planet Fitness on E. State Street which was formerly a Gordmans. Urban Air will join Flow as one of the Stateline’s two trampoline parks.
  • Candy Cloud released their Spring menu which includes an Orange Creamsicle drink, Butterfly Lavender Lemonade, and Strawberry Shortcake dessert. We can’t wait to try these delicious new additions! Check out their new app which makes ordering on the go even easier.
  • Rockford area golf courses are opening up between March 31 – April 5th with all five courses open by the first week of April.
  • Historic Auto Attractions in Roscoe opens up for the season on April 1st. Historic Auto Attractions has hundreds of famous and unique cars under one roof including a collection of presidential automobiles, Super Heroes and TV vehicles, and lots more. Not only that, but they also host one of the most extensive collectives of John F. Kennedy and Kennedy family artifacts and memorabilia in the country. There is also an Animal Kingdom exhibit with an African elephant, giraffe, brown bear, and more. If you visit, plan to spend several hours looking around!

Family-Friendly Live Shows & Concerts

April is bringing some exciting shows to the Stateline area! Here’s a list of what you can go see!

Easter Bunny & Egg Hunts

Easter is Sunday, April 9th! The Stateline area has a TON of Easter Egg hunts during the first week of the month as well as places you can visit the Easter Bunny. You can also make a reservation for Easter Brunch or Easter Dinner at one of these awesome area restaurants.

Butterfly Exhibit

Nicholas Conservatory is home to hundreds of butterflies again this April! The Secret Life of Butterflies exhibit gives families a chance to get up close to butterflies and feed them within an enclosed area. There is also a butterfly lab and a short video about butterflies to check out while you’re there!

Richardson Farm Tulip Festival

Richardson Adventure Farm is planning their tulip festival for sometime in April! Keep an eye on their social media, and ours, to see when they open! We can’t wait to walk through the half a million tulips!

Baby Animals

Summerfield Zoo in Belvidere welcomed a brand new baby camel named Bruno, a new donkey named Dominic, and two Kunekune pigs. These cuties can be seen when Summerfield Zoo opens for the season on the weekend of April 22nd. You do need to buy tickets in advance to visit the zoo.

Baseball Season

Let’s play ball! The Beloit Sky Carp kicked off their season on April 7th. You can get tickets to opening day here. The Beloit Sky Carp also announced that they’ll be playing five games as the Paletas de Beloit during the season! How cute is the mascot!

The Rockford Rivets will take the field in May with an ownership change and new events and deals this season!

Financial Literacy Month

April is Financial Literacy Month for Children! It’s a nationally designated month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of financial planning for the future. Teaching kids about finances can help them be better prepared to manage their money as adults.

We’ll be chatting with our friends from Rock Valley Credit Union about Children’s Financial Literacy Month again this year!

You can check out last year’s interview here.

Earth Day

Earth Day is Saturday, April 22nd! Earth Day gives us a chance to celebrate our Earth and learn how to protect it. Spend the day hiking, biking, or walking a trail in the Stateline or visit one of the area’s beautiful gardens.

We’ve put together some ideas for Earth Day. There are nature events, indoor events, outdoor events, and even some events that feature animals! Check out the list here.

Get Outside and Enjoy a Playground

Burn off that indoor energy at one of our local playgrounds! Early in the Spring, parks can be a muddy mess, but we’ve put together a list of the astroturf playgrounds in the Stateline so your kids can have fun and keep their shoes and clothes clean.

Have a wonderful April!
