One of Rockford’s greatest claims to fame is being the home of the Rockford Peaches! If you didn’t know, the Rockford Peaches were a women’s professional baseball team who played from 1943-1954 in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. They won the league championship in 1945 and 1948-1950. 

The story of the Rockford Peaches was featured in the movie, A League of Their Own, which debuted in 1992. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the movie and Rockford is celebrating all weekend long!

There are a bunch of family-friendly events happening to celebrate the Peaches and A League of Their Own!

Friday, July 1

A League of Their Own Night at Rockford City Market
4 pm – 8:30 pm
Cost: Free admission

The weekend kicks off with A League of Their Own night at the Rockford City Market. Shop from over 40 vendors, enjoy live music, and food and drinks.

The Suds Bucket Bash at The Standard
214 E. State St., Rockford, IL
5 pm – 8 pm
Cost: $100 per person (get tickets here)

Enjoy a night of live and video entertainment, photo opportunities with players from the original Rockford Peaches and the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. There will be performances by The Studio’s cast of Girls of Summer with their original songs about the Rockford Peaches. There will also be 40s swing dancers. There will be appetizers and desserts from Greenfire, a cash bar, and signature drinks. You can meet and greet the star of the movie, Megan Cavanagh (Marla Hooch). There will also be a 1940s Peaches-era bus parked next to the market for photo ops. 

Friday Night Flix: A League of Their Own at Davis Park
320 S. Wyman St., Rockford. IL
Cost: Free admission

Enjoy pre-movie entertainment of 40s swing dancers, students from The Studio performing songs from Girls of Summer, games and activities. The first 300 kids under 12 years old will get a Rockford Peaches pennant. Before the movie starts, star Megan Cavanagh will greet the audience.

Saturday, July 2

Rockford PLAY BALL with the IWBC at Beyer Park
15th Ave. and Seminary St., Rockford, IL
9 am – 12 pm
Cost: Free admission

Kids ages 5-12 can enjoy a morning of baseball or softball at Beyer Stadium. No experience is necessary. Kids will receive a t-shirt, wristband, ball and bat. Register here.

IWBC Meet and Greet at Beyer Stadium

10 am – 11:30 am
Cost: Free admission

AAGPBL players and Megan Cavanagh will be on hand to sign autographs ahead of the afternoon’s Celebrity Softball Game. Children’s activities related to baseball in the STEAM Zone will be available for families to enjoy ahead of the afternoon Celebrity Softball Game.

Celebrity Softball Game at Beyer Park
15th Ave. and Seminary St., Rockford, IL
12 pm – 2 pm
Cost: Free admission

Enjoy a game featured local softball talent from Rock Valley College, Rockford Park District, and more. Mayor Tom McNamara will throw out the first pitch. There will be food and drink vendors on site. 

Street Fair at Coronado PAC
314 N. Main St., Rockford, IL
6 pm – 7:30 pm
Cost: Free admission

Try your hand at some games including “Throw Like a Girl” pitching, enjoy 40s music, and cars during a street fair before the showing of the Prime series.
