We recently took a trip to Sycamore, Illinois to check out an amazing new splash pad! The Sycamore Park District Splash Fountain is located at 480 South Airport Road in Sycamore, Illinois. It’s about one hour from Rockford.
The Sycamore Splash Fountain was built in 2018. It’s a large splash pad with many spraying features, a bucket dump, and a water play area. The splash pad is extremely clean and well-maintained with rough concrete that did not feel slippery to walk on. We’d recommend playing in bare feet to help grip the concrete.
The splash pad is typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, but this year, they are open until September 27th so kids can enjoy a bit more summer fun!
Due to COVID19, the splash pad requires reservations for 75-minute slots. Each person who attends needs to reserve a spot and only 25 people total can be at the splash pad during each time slot. You can reserve your time here.
When you get to the splash pad, you will need to wear a mask to enter the Community Building. Masks are not required while playing in the splash pad. Inside the building, you will find a family bathroom with a changing table as well as men and women’s bathrooms. There are also vending machines in the lobby with soda and snacks.
You are not allowed to bring any food or drinks, except bottled water, into the splash pad.
There are seven benches located around the splash pad. Two have large awnings over them to shade them from the sun. There’s also an awning over the grass where families could bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on.
The splash pad has a variety of geysers that shoot water from the ground as well as three that shoot water from boulders on the side of the splash pad. There are three large leaf -shaped structures that spray water down. These sprays have a bit stronger water pressure. There’s also a bucket dumper that dumps every 20 seconds or so.
One of my kids favorite attractions was the water play area. This area has a twisting sprayer that allows kids to fill up different containers of water and create little pools. It would be fun to bring along rubber ducks or other water toys to play with in this area.
The water goes on automatically and the features turn on and off periodically. The water will turn off completely five minutes before your allotted time is up.
Our time slot felt like it ended quickly and we’d have loved to stay longer. We’ll be back for a post-COIVD visit where we can spend a few hours enjoying the splash pad.
