Winter is here and there’s snow on the ground! It’s time to head out to one of the Stateline’s best sledding hills before it all melts. The Rockford area has several options for places to take your family sledding. Take a look at our list then pack up the kids, grab your sleds, snowboards, and tubes, and have fun!
At all locations, you sled at your own risk. Remember to dress warmly!
Please note: Sledding is no longer allowed at Aldeen Park in Rockford or Sand Park in Loves Park.
Hospital Hill in Beloit
623 Olympian Blvd., Beloit, WI
Hospital Hill is one of the most popular spots to go sledding in Beloit. Kids of all ages will enjoy the large hill. There’s plenty of parking nearby.
Belvidere Park
1006 W Lincoln Ave., Belvidere, IL
Beautiful Belvidere Park has a large hill for families to enjoy. The hill is located near the Locust Street entrance. There’s plenty of parking throughout the park.
Ardon Park*
2201 Refset Dr., Janesville, WI
Ardon Park is a four-acre park that features a sledding hill. There is parking. This location has a sled shed with sleds you can borrow while you’re there.
Palmer Park
2501 Palmer Dr., Janesville, WI
Palmer Park is a huge 164 acre park with lots of fun activities in the summer like Camden Playground and Palmer Wading Pool and places to sled.
Riverside Park*
2600 Parkside Dr., Janesville, WI
Riverside Park is an 87 acre park that runs alongside the Rock River. There is an awesome splash pad to use in the summer and places to sled in the winter. This location has a sled shed with sleds you can borrow while you’re there.
Lustig Park*
1500 River View Dr., Janesville, WI
Lustig Park is another park with access to the Rock River. It has a disc golf course and sledding hill. This location has a sled shed with sleds you can borrow while you’re there.
Rockport Park
2801 Rockport Rd., Janesville, WI
Rockport Park is Janesville’s largest park at 246 acres. It includes a playground and 52 foot Peace Pole. You can also go cross country skiing at this park.
Sheiffer Park*
3600 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, WI
Sheiffer Park has a nature trail, paved path, and places to sled and snowshoe. This location has a sled shed with sleds you can borrow while you’re there.
Baumann Park
218 S. Walnut St., Cherry Valley, IL
Baumann Park has a large hill that kids of all ages will have fun sledding, tubing or snowboarding on. There’s a large parking lot close to the hill.
Twin Sisters Park
3001 Harney Ct., Rockford, IL
Twin Sisters Park is a very popular sledding destination with large, somewhat steep hills. This location can get very busy on snowy weekends so you may want to go during the school day with little ones or immediately after school with the whole family.
Levings Lake Park
1420 S Pierpont Ave., Rockford, IL
Levings Lake Park has several large hills that kids can sled. This park is being suggested to use for sledding for the first time this year. Stop by their two fun playgrounds (treehouse and colorful) while you’re there.
Sinnissippi Golf Course
1401 N. 2nd St., Rockford IL
After the Festival of Lights ends on December 31st, Sinnissippi Golf Course has some amazing hills that people can enjoy sledding on. Be sure to visit their two fun playgrounds (toddler and big kid) while you’re there.
Anna Page Park
2800 N. Springfield Ave., Rockford, IL
Once the home of a 250-foot toboggan chute that was removed in the ‘90s, Anna Page Park is still a great place to go sledding. It has smaller, gentler hills for the youngest kids to enjoy. There’s plenty of parking at the park.
Little Free Sled Shed Locations
There are a few places in the Stateline where you can borrow a sled while sledding. These Little Free Sled Shed locations are available in four parks in Janesville. If you see a star symbol next to a sledding hill above, a Little Free Sled Shed is available there. If you’d like to donate a new sled, you may do so at all four locations.
