Fall is a great time to run a 5K (3.1 miles) or participate in a fun run. These races are often held by non-profit organizations and are a major source of fundraising each year! Here’s a list of upcoming races in the Stateline area this Fall and what they support.
Autumn Leaf Run 5K at Oakdale Nature Preserve
4433 S. Cranes Grove Rd., Freeport, IL
When: Saturday, October 1, 2022
Cost: $25 per person
The Autumn Leaf run takes you through trails, hills, prairies, and more. This is a chip race. The proceeds go to Freeport Parks Foundation to fund projects at the Nature Preserve.
Autumn on Parade 5K and 1 Mile Run
Jefferson St. north of Oregon High School
When: Saturday, October 2, 2022
Cost: $10 per fun run participant
$30 per 5K participant
The Autumn on Parade race happens before the annual Autumn on Parade festival. All participants get a silicon wristband and a finisher ribbon. The fun run starts at 8 am and the 5K starts at 8:30 am.
Nik’s Home Run 7K and 1.5 Mile Walk at Rockford Rivets Stadium
4503 Interstate Blvd., Loves Park, IL
When: Saturday, October 8, 2022
Cost: $25 per 1.5 mile walker
$30 – 40 per 7K participant
Nik’s Home Run race has two options for runners – a 7K (approximately 4.2 miles) and a 1.5 mile fun run. Runners will be entered to win Bears tickets. You’ll get to run in the stadium, and down the Sportscore 2 path, and see yourself cross home plate on the Jumbotron. This race benefits the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation which brings joy to young adults (ages 18-24) throughout the country who are fighting cancer.
Jamie Cox Memorial 5K or 2 mile walk at Roscoe Middle School

When: Saturday, October 1, 2022
Cost: $15 per kid participant
$25 per 5K or 2 mile walk participant
Jamie Cox Memorial run celebrates the life of fallen Rockford Police officer, Jamie Cox and benefits the Jamie Cox foundation which provides scholarships.
Veterans 5K and Kids run at Mercyhealth Sportscore One
1288 Elmwood Rd., Rockford, IL
When: Saturday, November 5, 2022
Cost: $10 per kids 5K participant
$30 per adult 5K participant
The Veterans 5K and Kids run benefit the Veterans Drop-In Center in Rockford, Illinois which supports all veterans and their families with computer usage, free haircuts, peer to peer counseling and more.
Festival Foods Turkey Trot 5K and 2 mile run at Janesville Craig High School
401 S. Randall Ave., Janesville, WI
When: Thursday, November 24, 2022
Cost: $15 per child participant
$27 per adult participant
The Turkey Trot proceeds go to Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCAs in Janesville.
