Have you heard of kindness or art rocks? They are rocks that people paint with inspirational messages or artistic designs then hide around town for others to find. If you find one, you can keep it and replace it with a rock you’ve painted or rehide it. Searching for rocks is a fun, free activity you can do with your kids on a nice day!

Creating your own kindness or art rocks

Painting and hiding your own kindness and art rocks is a fun and low-cost activity to do with your kids.

You can find rocks on your property or purchase rocks from Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby. Use acrylic paint and paintbrushes or permanent markers to decorate the rocks. After you’re done painting or coloring, seal the rocks with spray sealer or Mod Podge.

Take your rocks and hide them around town! Remember to be respectful of others’ property.

  1. My boy found a rock at the Anderson Japanese Gardens on Thursday but I thought it was part of the decoration by a water fountain.
